Shape Up and Fly Right, Chapter 2, Page 66

My leather jacket surrounding my shoulders like a warm embrace proved to be an indispensable keepsake keeping me connected to my previous life, and I reluctantly removed it only when necessary. But for the most part it remained with me always and became my own version of a security blanket.

Author’s Commentary

Thrust into a dystopian nightmare Lily was desperately seeking tangible evidence of the loving home she was involuntarily forced to leave behind.

Lily discovers her Black Leather Jacket is more than just outerwear to keep her protected from inclement weather. One might even say the inclement ill treatment she is now experiencing by the eager puppets enforcing the rules and regulations of a devilish regime.

Lily now finds herself in sole confinement, mightily locked away from all that she has known and loved in the world. But held within the stitches and the fabric of her leather jacket,  are the happy memories of a place called home.

And beyond this Lily is also pleasantly pleased with herself to find after experiencing the fierce hatred of others. She did not give into their satisfaction by reciprocating to their ill gotten gains. But possessed the capacity for human-kindness within to appreciate the smallest of blessings.

Yes Lily’s leather jacket held a lot more meaning for her, by bringing her back to counting her blessings, and thereby her fond connection to the Lord. Her jacket surrounding her shoulders like God’s sweet embrace come to comfort her in her affliction as it is written in Psalms 119:50, This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
